Hi, I'm Stephen. I turn data into decisions by understanding the past and predicting the future.

I work these days as a principal data scientist at Atlassian, where I take on strategic projects and help my team and all of Product Data Science balance addressing pressing business needs and positioning our team to have the greatest impact long term.

My roots are in economics, when I learned about probability, statistical computing, and data analysis. I have extensive experience with technologies like R, SQL, and Python, and I have a deep knowledge of empirical methodology and econometrics (research design, causal inference, time series, forecasting, etc.).

I am always learning, and I enjoy teaching technical and statistical concepts to others. I specialize in "data science translation", taking datasets or algorithms and explaining the business implications to executive audiences through visualization and storytelling.
